Our earlier draft on the ratcheting tensions between India and Pakistan was pre-empted by the the morning of 7 May, when India launched missiles against nine sites, and Pakistan subsequently claimed to have shot down five Indian planes and taken soldiers prisoner. We’ll cover some of the history, as well as what lead up to the open renewal of conflict, but of much greater importance now is how this is could reverberate around the globe. Nuclear weapons are unlikely to start flying, especially as both countries were willing to agree a ceasefire – albeit, one that remains fragile, not least as neither side seems fully convinced of its need. There will be aftershocks.
