Tech Ecosystems: Australia Thus Far
A first-parter into Australia's failures to support the tech industry, and where we go from here.
Key observations
Initiatives such as the National Reconstruction Fund should be used to nurture Australian technology ecosystems.
But to do that, such initiatives need to be apolitical—ministers should diligently avoid seeking to hang their hat on investment announcements—and professional, staffed with subject matter experts experienced in technology, business and investment.
And they need to be part of a more holistic approach to technology and industry development, that appreciates how technology grows, and the role of inputs and enablers, including education, adjacent technologies, supply chains, financing, procurement and regulation.
